Do you think that at 18, wanting a tragic life is strange?
I am an 18-year-old gay man and see myself as a tragic icon, like Anna Karenina or Madame Bovary. I want a life of fancy cocktail parties, heartbreaks, sadness, alcoholism, and homelessness in the end. I want to become rather wealthy and have an affair with a younger man like in The Reader and break up with him at an airport, wearing a grey peacoat and black leather gloves. I will then look at the plane fly away with all my hopes and dreams. I want to have a theatrical life where people move their hands a lot like in a tragic plays and I want to see women wave handkerchiefs at their husbands. I want to break up with a man in the rain and have the rain slowly fall upon my face, whilst I’m wearing a beige trench coat and a fedora. I want to lose everything after and die on the street, homeless. This IS a serious question with ideas and thoughts which haunt me all day. I want misery and sorrow so much. I also want to die at 28. Do you think these types of thoughts are odd for an 18-year-old?
Not at all. You’re bored and have clearly never faced any true trials in life yet darlin’. You’re not alone, you’re not the first, and you’re not going to have this feeling forever.
When you truly get out in the world and life gets tough, you’ll change your mind.

The life you speak of is not the romantic sort of tragedy you fantasize it as. Alcoholism and homelessness are not merely tragic, they are miserable, painful, and horrible. "Tragic" superimposes a romanticism that in reality is not a part of it. I am a recovering alcoholic, and I had a lot of the things you are talking about, and if I could push rewind and back up to before all of that, I would. I just recently met a young man just a year or two older than you, who is struggling with alcoholism, and was living on the streets in 17 degree weather, contemplating suicide in the restroom of an all-night grocery store. When he left the store to go jump in front of a truck, he saw a policeman, whom he had the sense to ask for help, and who took him to the hospital. Go visit a skid row, see the clueless, vacant, hopeless stares of the homeless alcoholics with all their possessions in a shopping cart. Better yet, go to an open AA meeting and listen to the stories people tell about their lives.
You’d better hope that your misery ends at 28 if you pursue the life you describe.

why would a Government or Authority wish for civilians to assassinate other civilians?
OK, I need a plot device as to why the main character of a story will need to or be required to kill other civilians on behalf of a government or authority.

What if a criminal has very valuable information for the government (which would save many lives) and wants to trade the imformation for an assassination(s) for personal gain.
The other possiblility is that the targets have been contaiminated somehow. An infectious disease would be too difficult present too many logistical problems for your plot. What if civillians had accidental discover something secret . Perhap a government had planted a nuclear/chemical/biological device in foreign territory and engineers or tourists had stumbled across it. Perhaps they had seen an vital agent who was supposed to be dead.
The person being assassinated would need to be somewhere were the government couldn’t get at them or the government would use there own agents. On a moving vehicle, an isolated rig, some isolated location such as a cave, in a secure research lab or perhaps in a prison.
Your biggest difficultly might be in explaining why the character and the government should trust each other.

The standard plot device is that the government hires a civilian do do it, or tricks a civilian into doing it, so that there is no obvious trail leading back to the government.

I don’t know if this delves too far into sci fi for your tastes, but you could relate it to the environment/global warming since that is a hot topic right now.
How about, some scientists have discovered that the earth has exceeded it’s "carrying capacity" (this is a term scientists have used if you want to look it up) and so the government has decided that some of the citizens need to be killed off to save the planet from dying out and killing everyone. So they hire certain trustworthy people that they have found through a selection process and have them trained to secretly kill off certain other citizens.

I’m really worried about the SHSAT results. Everyone is saying that Stuyvesant is really hard. People have to wake up at 5 AM, get home at 5 PM, and sleep at 2 PM. I really want to get into Stuyvesant but everyone is dis-hearting me. I don’t think that I can afford 3 hours of sleep, let alone 5!! I’m already too tired with only 6 hours of sleep each day, in the eighth grade.
So my question is: Is Stuyvesant better or Brooklyn Technical?
I want as many answers as possible!! Thanks!!

I am happy to join with you today in what will go down in history as the greatest demonstration for freedom in the history of our nation.

In a sense we’ve come to our nation’s capital to cash a check. When the architects of our republic wrote the magnificent words of the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence, they were signing a promissory note to which every American was to fall heir. This note was a promise that all men, yes, black men as well as white men, would be guaranteed the "unalienable Rights" of "Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness." It is obvious today that America has defaulted on this promissory note, insofar as her citizens of color are concerned. Instead of honoring this sacred obligation, America has given the Negro people a bad check, a check which has come back marked "insufficient funds."
But we refuse to believe that the bank of justice is bankrupt. We refuse to believe that there are insufficient funds in the great vaults of opportunity of this nation. And so, we’ve come to cash this check, a check that will give us upon demand the riches of freedom and the security of justice.
We have also come to this hallowed spot to remind America of the fierce urgency of Now. This is no time to engage in the luxury of cooling off or to take the tranquilizing drug of gradualism. Now is the time to make real the promises of democracy. Now is the time to rise from the dark and desolate valley of segregation to the sunlit path of racial justice. Now is the time to lift our nation from the quicksands of racial injustice to the solid rock of brotherhood. Now is the time to make justice a reality for all of God’s children.
It would be fatal for the nation to overlook the urgency of the moment. This sweltering summer of the Negro’s legitimate discontent will not pass until there is an invigorating autumn of freedom and equality. Nineteen sixty-three is not an end, but a beginning. And those who hope that the Negro needed to blow off steam and will now be content will have a rude awakening if the nation returns to business as usual. And there will be neither rest nor tranquility in America until the Negro is granted his citizenship rights. The whirlwinds of revolt will continue to shake the foundations of our nation until the bright day of justice emerges.
But there is something that I must say to my people, who stand on the warm threshold which leads into the palace of justice: In the process of gaining our rightful place, we must not be guilty of wrongful deeds. Let us not seek to satisfy our thirst for freedom by drinking from the cup of bitterness and hatred. We must forever conduct our struggle on the high plane of dignity and discipline. We must not allow our creative protest to degenerate into physical violence. Again and again, we must rise to the majestic heights of meeting physical force with soul force.
The marvelous new militancy which has engulfed the Negro community must not lead us to a distrust of all white people, for many of our white brothers, as evidenced by their presence here today, have come to realize that their destiny is tied up with our destiny. And they have come to realize that their freedom is inextricably bound to our freedom.

Steel Magnolias (1989)

It seems that the only one of the group who truly understands Ouiser is Clairee who is recently widowed and looking for a diversion. As she says, later in the picture, “If you can’t find anything good to say about anybody, come sit by me.” Filled with humor and heartbreak, these “Steel Magnolias” make us laugh and cry as the realities of their lives in tiny Chiquapin Parish unfolds.

I always see questions asking how long after taking an antibiotic can you have unprotected sex again. But what If I had unprotected sex last night and was just prescribed an antibiotic that said it may affect the effectiveness of birth control. When is it safe to start taking the antibiotic with no risk of pregnancy?
If you were prescribed an antibiotic, you need to start taking it the day it was prescribed. You’ll just have to push your luck regarding last night’s activity (which you knew might cause a problem) but stop the sex until at least a week after medication is finished.
It seems impossible that anyone old enough to be sexually active is not mature enough to abstain during infections and antibiotic therapy.
